Cumnock u16 5 Dalziel U16 19

Fresh from winning the West Division 2 South league unbeaten, Cumnock welcomed Division 1 opponents Dalziel in the Cup to a wet and muddy Broomfield.

This was going to be the young Cumnock teams first big test of the season against a bigger pack from Division 1 opposition. Dalziel kicked the game off and Cumnock gathered the ball and straight away took the game to Dalziel. Making steady progress up the park Cumnock continued to work the phases until Robbie McLaren was able to dive over from a few yards out to complete a great team effort for the first score of the game.

The visitors came back at Cumnock and while the home defence stood firm they struggled to clear their lines until Dalziel finally make the break through with a converted try to make the half time score 5 – 7.

In the second half Dalziel’s bigger pack was coping with the heavy conditions better and their kicking game was keeping the Nock pegged back. Cumnock struggled to get the ball out to their backs and the conditions were keeping the pace out of the game all of which were in the visitors favour. Despite great defence and 100% effort by the whole team the Division 1 team broke the line another twice to make the final score Cumnock 5 Dalziel 19.

Cumnock now fall into the shield competition with their heads held high as the boys coped well against bigger opposition and will be better off for this outing as they could be facing teams from the higher leagues the longer they stay on the competition. On the whole it was a great effort by the whole squad.
