Report by Ian Park
Cumnock started the game playing with the wind and a determination that resulted in 2 tries in the first 5 minutes, Bradley Smith scoring the first and Aiden Kerr diving over from the back of a scrum for the second score to race into a 10-0 lead. Kilmarnock just couldn’t deal with Cumnock’s game with the forwards well on top and providing good ball for the backs who’s handling throughout the day was excellent in tricky conditions.
Kerr once more found space to score under the posts, a trait that continued for the remainder of the Cumnock tries allowing Park to convert 7 from 9 for the game. The Nocks whirlwind start continued with Michael Anderson next to break away and score followed by a big forward drive allowing Ross Donnelly to crash over. Anderson then scored his second, with Robbie McLaren completing the first half score for Cumnock to lead 45-0.
The second half started in the same fashion Daryl McCulloch breaking through the centre to increase the lead 52-0. Kilmarnock finally got into Cumnock’s half and poor defence at a 5 metre ruck allowed Killie to break their duck. The game was now getting a bit messy like the conditions, however a blistering run by wing Dale West made it 59-7. Killie managed one more score before the game ended as it had begun with Cumnock camped in the Killie half with the score 59-14
It was another good performance to make it 6 from 6 in the league and very pleasing for the coaches with 7 different try scorers today and 11 in all games this year. It cannot be emphasised enough how much of a team effort this has been so far including great attendance at training where it all starts. The coaches now want the boys to start to believe in themselves a bit more and a have confidence to play their structured game for 80 minutes and in all areas of the pitch.
