Cartha Queens Park 36 - Cumnock / Kilmarnock Cougars 21
Report by Kevan Aitken Both teams were a bit rusty folowing an enforced lay-off due to poor weather over the last four or five weeks.
However it was Cartha that were first on the scoresheet following a good pick-up and drive by the Number 8 from the back of a scrum. Almost immediately though the Cougars replied with a fine score from Bradley Smith, with Jack Reilly adding the conversion. Cartha scored two more tries before the break, with one in reply from Reilly, taking the half time score to 24-14.
The Cougars were the livelier team in the second half, but again some slack defending allowed their opponents to score first. A more determined team then took the game in hand and piled the pressure onto their more physical opponents. A further try from Reilly gave them hope but the game was put beyond doubt when the Cartha prop dived over in the corner near the end. Final score 36-21 in favour of the Glasgow team.
