A pre-season training game was arranged and played in good conditions at Broomfield on Sunday. Three periods of twenty minutes gave the coaches plenty of time to try things out and move players around. The first two periods were fairly evenly matched and the Cougars coaches were satisfied with the way that the players were out-muscling their larger opponents at the breakdown. However in the last period the visitors stepped up a gear and ran in three unanswered tries.
The Cougars meet Whitecraigs again next week in their first pool match of the West of Scotland U16 Cup so know what to expect from their opponents. Ben Stewart is a concern for next week having picked up an ankle injury and a number of other players took a few hard knocks but should be available.
Training this week will be at Kilmarnock Rugby Club on Thursday night and players are asked to be there and ready to train at 6.30pm.
