With a lot of cancelled fixtures due to the weather Cumnock have struggled to get games under their belt and continue the momentum of their early season good form. However, Cumnock blew Kilmarnock away in the first half starting strongly with their more experienced players running in 3 unanswered tries.
Both the forwards and backs performed well dominating the game. Good forward drives lead to hooker Glen Young crashing over from a few yards out for the first try, Calum Park scored the conversion. The next came from a typical strong long distance run from Park, Cumnock again turning over Kilmarnock in their own half. The third try came from the ever improving full back, Louis Andrew, breaking tackles and running through the Kilmarnock pack.
Cumnock S1/2’s have about 30 boys to try and secure game time for, so the coaches made wholesale changes in the second half. Introducing more S1 players and some new boys to give them a taste of the game but still they all performed well and stopped Kilmarnock from scoring.
In the last half Cumnock continued to make changes, with the onus on developing players rather than the result, allowing Kilmarnock run in 2 late tries, both converted well, narrowing the score which flattered Killie.
Only good defensive play from Kilmarnock stopped Cumnock from scoring more tries on the day but the Cumnock players can be pleased with their display and hopefully the more experienced players will continue to encourage their newer teammates to more wins.
