On the reverse fixture on Sunday at Broomfield. Defying the weather once more on a surprisingly good surface, Cumnock dished up some great running rugby and lots and lots of tries.
Played in 3 20 minute sections Cumnock played consistently well throughout the match. The first session saw Cumnock race into a 3 try lead thanks to scores from Hamish White, Captain Andy Houston and Dylan Chidwick. Strathaven fought back with a long range score before Cumnock scored a 4th thanks to a second from Andy Houston. Cumnock were playing with real flair and started to put together a very effective off loading game.
In the second session Cumnock carried on where the left off and claimed scores from Jamie Drummond, Dylan Chidwick and Owen Young. The standard of the off loading continued to improve and Cumnock were very close to scoring 2 or 3 other tries.
In the last session the teams were evened up a bit and Dylan Chidwick moved to the Strathaven colours. He proceeded to score a hat trick of tries against his team mates with only tries from Adam Watt and Andy Houston in reply. Owen Young also added 3 conversions throughout the game making the final score 31 points to Cumnock.
Coach Alan Montgomery was visibly chuffed after the game making the following comments, “ We really turned up today and every player contributed. I was particularly pleased with Declan Grainger and Mitchell today who started to carry the ball and pose threats to the other team.”
Next week Cumnock take a selected S1/S2 team squad to Castle Douglas to play Stewartry.
