Cumnock S1/S2 Report

After a narrow defeat by Garnock in the final last weekend at the S2 7's tournament at Paisley losing out by one try Cumnock were out to prove a point on Sunday at the Cumnock tournament.

The first game was against Kilmarnock and from the kick off Cumnock took control of the game.The home side played a tight game running support lines giving plenty of options to pass or off load the ball creating openings in the line to break through and score.

When on defence Cumnock moved up quickly pressurising their opponents into making mistakes pushing them back or winning back possession.
Cumnock dominated in the first half scoring early to take the lead then keeping the pressure on when not in possession of the ball.
The second half started well but a few lapses in concentration led to penalties for Kilmarnock who took advantage and ran in three tries.
Kilmarnock played well but came to their best too late in the game.Never the less an entertaining,well matched game of rugby was produced.
The final score was Cumnock 19 - 10 Kilmarnock.

Game 2 was Kilmarnock against Garnock/Ardrossan resulting in a victory for Garnock who won 14 - 7 who were the stronger side but as before Kilmarnock came to the fore in the second half but too late to make a comeback.

The final Cumnock against Garnock was very evenly matched with moments of intense play from both sides.Cumnock scored first followed by Garnock to keep the pressure on.
Throughout the game it was close contact play with a lot of breakdowns followed by the ball getting shipped wide looking for openings to break through the defensive line.
With 5 minutes to the end of the game Garnock were one point ahead at 11 - 10 but last big attack from Cumnock got the ball through the Garnock defence
and over the try line to end the game Cumnock 14 - 11 Garnock.

This was the last home game of the season and was made more special with Cumnock winning the tournament.The team pushed themselves hard ,kept their heads up and got on with what they had to do to win each game.
The coaches were very happy with the performance proving that all the hard work the boys put in at the training has payed off.

Friday 31st May is the last game for S1/S2 with a 7pm kick off at Kilmarnock when they will play Kilmarnock and Ayr.
