Report by Martin Wallace
With a poor turn out of only 9 players Cumnock struggled to get into any type of set play, with borrowed players and heavy snow during their first match.
Slow reflexes and lack of a defensive line led to an easy defeat by Hamilton.
After a short break Cumnock started their second match against an aptly named Biggar who had more than a few big lads in their squad.
By now Cumnock had got their game into order with support play and defence greatly improved. Although the tackling was massively improved it did not stop Biggar breaking the defence with the bigger players to score twice.
As the game progressed Cumnock began to attack more, keeping possession by passing wide and contesting well at the breakdowns resulting in a try run in by Tyler Wallace in the last play of the game.
The last match was against Glasgow Hawks and by now the confidence throughout the team was high and it showed as Cumnock edged the possession and meters made.
Every player had made an effort to up their game committing to tackles and disrupting any attacking runs made by Hawks.
Robert McColl ran in 2 more tries after some fast flowing play as the ball was passed through the hands to open up space which resulted in both tries put down in the corner.
The event was not about winning or losing but about skill, technique, respect and teamwork and in this Cumnock did themselves proud.
