Report by Martin Wallace

Slow start to new season

Cumnock travelled to Kilmarnock for their first game of the new season.Short of players for both age groups a mix of S1 and S2 players formed a squad of fifteen with two substitutes.

As play got under way Kilmarnock began to dictate play with more experienced players in their team running in three tries in the first 10 minutes none of which were converted.

Cumnock started to settle in as the more experienced S2 players set examples which were soon adopted by newer players.

Tyler Wallace was first to score a try for Cumnock with powerful run fifteen minutes into the game but a missed conversion denied another point.

Cumnock defended hard but a gap in the line gave Kilmarnock another try in the corner to finish the first of three twenty minute games.

Heads seemed to go down in the second game as both teams went from one half to the other attacking and defending.Kilmarnock put in the first try which was soon answered with a great run by Logan Naismith resulting in a try under the posts.

Enthusiasm was back in the final game with a determination to make their mark.Tries were held up rucks were dominated and defence was organised.John Watt ran in the final try securing the ball and beating defence to the line adding three more points to Cumnock. Tyler kicked the conversion to make Cumnocks total ten points.

An encouraging start to the season which will only improve as the games progress.Man of the match went to Daniel Girvan for his defence and tackling ability stopping a lot more tries being scored.
