Cumnock/Ayr travelled to Paisley with some optimism, fresh from last weeks victory.

However Cumnock/Ayr started slow and made a lot of individual errors making the game very stop-start and found themselves 12 points down in as many minutes. Eventually Cumnock/Ayr found a bit of momentum and managed to string some passes together feeding Marcus Bowditch to score in the corner, Ross Anderson converted. Cumnock/Ayr scored again in the same area, Ross Anderson’s strong run producing the try, he also converted to lead at halftime 12 – 14.

The game was now in Cumnock/Ayr’s hands and from the restart Cumnock/Ayr pressured the Paisley backs, eventually Euan Park scrambled the ball over for a try, only for the referee to claim he never saw it and gave a scrum at the 5m line. Paisley then took the game to Cumnock/Ayr their taller forwards were starting to dominate the scrum and line-outs and some slack defending saw Cumnock/Ayr loose 12 points in quick succession to trail 24 – 14. Cumnock/Ayr got back in the game Marcus Bowditch again scoring, Anderson converted to bring the game within 3 points. Cumnock/Ayr were now camped in the Paisley half and from a scrum 10m out Neil Sloan was fed the ball on the blind side and ran over to score only for the referee to again bring the ball back for another scrum. The game finished with Cumnock/Ayr on the Paisley 5m searching for the winner.

The coaches were disappointed that the boys didn’t make it two victories in a row but they forgot the game plan and instead of playing it wide, as instructed, where they were scoring from, they were playing individually and trying to force it through the centre. This team has come a long way this season and are now in position where they can compete against most teams but with a bit of belief and if they listen to the coaches and remember the game plan they could be winning more games.
