Strong away performance by 18s

Cartha18s 12 Cumnock 18s 45

Cumnock 18s were in action for the first time in a few weeks travelling to Glasgow to play Cartha RFC. Despite a few regulars missing Cumnock had a quite a strong team which quickly got on the front foot against a committed Cartha team.

Cumnock caught the eye with committed and powerful running by a number of forwards allied to strong defence and commitment to turnovers. Fresh from his sick bed 17 Jamie Drummond gave a performance full of drive and aggression. Making numerous powerful runs and telling tackles and scoring a great try. Sanquhar man, Robbie Stewart, continued his run of brilliant performances carrying the ball on numerous occasions and putting in big tackles. The last of these towards the end of the game had the crowd wincing as he flattened the opposing 10. Euan Bell had his usual performance full of hard work and rounded off by a great try. Captain Wallace Findlay led from the front as pack leader inspiring his fellow forwards to a great performance. He was ably supported by Jamie Caldwell, Robb Drummond, Mikey Casey and Samuel Gillon.

In the backs there were some great performances as every back more than played his fair share in the victory. Half backs Adam Watt and Andy Houston controlled the game well, Chris Smith had numerous powerful runs whilst Zak Donald danced through many tackles claiming a try in the process. Hamish White at full back was rock solid whilst Owen Young and Kody Roberts had really good games. The pick of the backs were Ross Briody, who once more should tremendous grit and determination, and Willie Sheddan who never missed a tackle and grabbed to great scores. Wallace Findlay also added 5 conversions.

Coach Rab Donald commented, “ This win has been coming for a while. We have been very unlucky with injuries this year and they have not had many breaks. The boys were all determined to have a big win for missing pack leader Dillon Naismith and I think they did him proud. Man of the match was a hard one today and Jamie Drummond and Ross Briody were unfortunate to miss out. However for me Lewis Findlay was brilliant. The number of hard yards that he made, turnovers and big tackles was really impressive and led to two very good tries by him.

Next week Cumnock have a home fixture against Dumfries.
