P3 vs Ardrossan (Home)

On Sunday we welcomed our friends from Ardrossan to Broomfield. Due to the excellent numbers we managed to field 2 strong teams.

First up were the Cumnock blacks who for the first half of this game were playing as if they were half asleep. Ardrossan opened the scoring early in the game with a quick break down the wing for a well taken try. The blacks huffed and puffed but just before half time they did get their first try through a power run and finish from John. On the plus side the blacks defence led by Blair, Riley and Finlay did keep out numerous Ardrossan attacks.

After a quick chat with the coaches the blacks flew out of the blocks and looked like the team we all know they are. Maddy made a powerful run, with a quick offload Iona was put clear and there was no one catching her as she finished a well worked try. Cumnock blacks were now pushing Ardrossan back with wave after wave of attacks and some excellent running from Iona, Riley and Finlay. The defensive line was now secure with Adam and Blair not missing a tackle between them. After a turnover on their own line, Maddy spotted a gap and made ground up to half way, a quick pass to John and he danced his way past the Ardrossan defence to score the blacks third try. Finlay, Adam and Riley continued to marshal the defence until Ardrossan scored their second try right on full time. A mixed performance by the blacks but a great learning curve with a much better second half display. Final score Cumnock Blacks 3, Ardrossan 2

Next up was the reds.

Similar to the black team the reds started slowly giving Ardrossan an early 2 tries, but this seemed to motive the reds into action. Led by some strong running from Harry and Emma, Ruari collected the ball and dashed up the wing to score a very good team try. Caleb then started to stretch the Ardrossan defence with some very quick breaks which led to Ruari collecting his second try of the game. At half time the score was even with Cumnock Reds 2, Ardrossan 2.

The reds started the second half with Tilly flying down the wing and with a quick pass to Ruari he scored his hat trick try in the corner. Ardrossan were being stopped time and time again with some more great defending from Ruaridh, Emma, Tilly and Harry. This time it was Ruben's turn to bomb forward and with Caleb supporting he came up just short. With the reds starting to tire Ardrossan scored 2 quick tries to make the score 4:3 to our visitors. The Cumnock reds were rocked but with the last play of the game the reds scored the try of the day. A blistering run by Ruaridh then Caleb left Ruben with two Ardrossan players to beat; and beat he did, rescuing a draw for the reds with a brilliant finish. A very promising performance from the reds which left the coaches delighted. The final score was Cumnock Reds 4, Ardrossan 4

The reds then faced the blacks which the coaches used as a training game with both teams playing some great stuff for the spectators on the side lines.
