Cumnock Cougars welcomed their good friends from Lenzie down to Broomfield on Sunday morning that would turn out to be a tale of two halves weather-wise.
Cumnock, having a high number of players available were able to field two teams and each team would play a half each. Into the first game with the rain coming in sideways Cumnock struck first with some fantastic play straight up the middle of the pitch to catch Lenzie on the hop. There was some fantastic defending from both teams, however the Cougars stepped up a gear and scored another two quick tries in succession. There was some resolute defending from Adam, Tilly and Blair holding the line well, meaning Iona, John and Adam could run riot up the wings. The try of the game came just before half-time when Callum made a sprint up the pitch before being tackled and with a quick offload to Maddy she crossed the line unobstructed. The coaches were beaming with pride as the young team had been practicing support play and quick offloads to catch teams off guard and this was the rewards being put on show. Into the second half and Lenzie started to come back into the game more and they matched Cumnock try for try. The final score ended 10-5 to Cumnock
For Cumnock's second game the sun was splitting the trees which made the game more enjoyable for the kids. Cumnock started where they left off in the first game scoring tries quickly and defending resolutely. Out on the wings John, Riley and Iona were causing Lenzie headaches with their fast pace and quick sidesteps often leaving Lenzie in a dizzy. Cumnock restricted Lenzie to only five tries in the game whereas Cumnock scored 16 with the final try being scored by Harry on his debut as a Cumnock Cougar. Every player in the team put in a sterling performance and should be happy with the results as the hard work is beginning to reap rewards.
