P3 at Loch Lomond Festival

Cumnock's primary 3 team travelled up to Alexandria for the Loch Lomond Festival, a fixture that marked the end of a great season and their last game of micro rugby before moving into the mini section.
Cumnock's first match was against West of Scotland Red, a very handy team who immediately shocked Cumnock with a searing break to open the scoring. West proved a hard team to break down, making Cumnock work very hard to score but pace, good support play and determination eventually told as Cumnock gained the upper hand with Lewis and Paul both crossing twice to score. Both teams battled hard to the end in a compelling match, played at a frantic pace but Cumnock's defence held firm with Finlay, Logan and Matthew leading the line.

In their second game Cumnock took on Lenzie. Reiley, Maddy and Lewis constantly pressed forward in defence pressuring Lenzie's ball carriers extremely effectively and denying many scoring opportunities. Cumnock attacked in waves, Freya's excellent support play brought her 2 well deserved tries while Aaron used his blistering speed to outpace the Lenzie cover and bag a brace. Paul also scored twice through a combination of speed & great footwork.

Cumnock played their third and final match against another talented West of Scotland team who passed the ball well to stretch the Cumnock defence, constantly posing a threat. Cumnock defended resolutely as a team to repel most attacks. Cumnock were clinical going forward, Reiley twice spotting space on the wing to score fine tries. Paul, Lewis and the irrepressible Matthew also danced their way through determined West defence to score. Both teams deserved great credit for an entertaining, hotly contested match that was played in a really good spirit.

Cumnock finished an enjoyable day undefeated having played some super rugby against strong opposition. All players showed great commitment and fully played their part in an excellent team performance. A fitting end to a stellar season for this tremendous squad that is bursting with talent and potential.
