Cumnock & GHA youngsters serve up a cracker!

Cumnock's primary 4 squad welcomed Glasgow Hutchesons' Aloysians (GHA) to Broomfield for an eagerly anticipated fixture on a perfect Sunday morning for rugby.
The fixture did not disappoint with both clubs fielding 2 strong teams who battled hard throughout, playing some fantastic rugby.
The Cumnock Red team faced a well organised & determined GHA side packed with strong runners. Cumnock started on the front foot with Cuinn bursting through tackles to score a fine opener. Logan then secured a turnover before Ciara blasted through for a second after a determined charge. Not to be outdone GHA attacked with pace, finding space on the wings to keep the scoreboard ticking over despite strong tackling from Cumnock for whom Logan, Cuinn and Aaron led the line well.
Finlay was unlucky not to score, stepping into touch on a powerful charge which had the GHA defence scrambling. Ewan & Murray constantly tested the GHA defence with mazy runs bringing deserved tries for both while Murray was denied a second by a last-gasp pincer tackle. Aaron's blistering pace brought him a brace of tries while Cuinn's abrasive runs earned her two further fine scores.
As the match raged from end to end the Reds all worked hard for each other in defence with Murray, Ciara & Ewan all making try-saving tackles, as did Logan who seemed to be everywhere on the pitch! Logan's attacking runs proved impossible to contain as he bagged himself an incredible SEVEN tries with an irresistible combination of power, sidesteps and determination.
Finlay deservedly got on the scoresheet with a fine run which saw him brushing off tacklers left and right. Ciara's direct charges were foiled by the touchline on two occasions but, undeterred she stormed through the GHA defence for the second score that her performance merited to round off the scoring.
Both teams deserved tremendous credit for a fantastic game, played in a great spirit. The spectators enjoyed some scintillating rugby with superb attacking & determined defending, the game ending 17-15 to Cumnock Red.
Cumnock Blacks lined up to start the match against a strong, talented, pacey GHA side. From the off both coaching teams could tell this was going to be a cracker with both sides going hammer and tongs. It wasn’t long till Cumnock got their first try, Lewis powering through the GHA defence and bulldozing his way over the try line. However, GHA came roaring back adding tries of their own. Mason, Matthew Reiley, Freya and Kole having to work their socks off, making tackle after tackle in defence trying to keep our visitors at bay.
The tide was starting to turn towards the young Cumnock side, picking up on errors and now winning turnovers. Further tries were added by Paul and Mason, their pace and speed of attack proving too much for GHA. Not to be left out Reiley added to the score line with a fine individual effort side-stepping his way through the GHA defence. To their credit GHA kept on coming and were always a handful in attack, breaking through the Cumnock defence on a few occasions. However, Cumnock kept plugging away and added further tries to the score line moving them out of reach at the full-time whistle of game one. Cumnock winning the match 14-7

After a short break and some coaching points both sides took the field for the second match. Cumnock started slowly in this match and GHA could sense it, powering an early try. Cumnock did respond with a darting run by Mason however the young Cumnock side were lacking concentration in defence and GHA answered almost immediately with another try of their own. With some encouragement from the side lines the Cumnock side we’re now all ears and took the game to the visitors once again. Reiley and Lewis continually showing power and determination in attack, drove the team forward picking up tries in the process. Now winning turnovers in the middle through hard work and defence, Cumnock were getting the upper hand. Paul and Mason adding their names to the try scorers showing blistering pace down the flanks leaving the visitors scarpering behind. Kole almost got his first try of the season, bustling his way through the GHA defence only for his foot to step into touch. However, a quick off load saw Lewis over the line for a try. Matthew bossing the defensive line alongside Freya kept the Cumnock defence in position for the remainder of the match with the Cumnock side again coming out on top with a 14-6 victory.
Scorers: Riley (3) Mason (4) Lewis (4) Paul (3)
