Tries, tries and more tries!!

Cumnock’s primary 4 squad welcomed their friends from Lenzie to Broomfield for the first home match of the season. Cumnock had a full squad raring to play so were able to field two teams, Red and Black.
The Black team were first to face Lenzie. The visitors started play and straight from the off Mason, Reiley, Lewis and Cuinn set the tone for the match, flying forward into tackles and pinning the Lenzie attack deep into their own half. It wasn’t long before the first turnover was won. Quick thinking by the Cumnock attack set Lewis off for his first of many tries for the afternoon side stepping his way through the visiting defence.
Time after time the Blacks were winning turnovers due to their effort in defence. The tackles were flying in all over the pitch, Paul and Ryan on seven occasions tacking the Lenzie players into touch winning valuable turnovers. This proved to be beneficial with Mason powering over for a try. Matthew added with a fine run of his own and Lewis, Reiley and Cuinn proved too much for Lenzie defence adding to the score line with further fast-paced tries.
The Blacks were not in any mood to take their foot off the gas. Lewis adding further tries along with Paul and Reiley, by this point the Blacks were in top gear.
Some sterling work in defence by Kole and Freya in the middle of defence were limiting the space for Lenzie and the Cumnock line were pushing the visitors up the pitch deep into their own half time after time. Some dogged work by Lenzie got some rewards as they added a couple of deserved tries of their own. However, opportunities were few and far between. An excellent display by the Cumnock side finishing the match with an impressive 14-2 victory.
Scorers. Lewis 5, Paul 3, Reiley 2, Mason 2, Matthew 1 and Cuinn 1.
Cumnock Reds faced off against Lenzie next in what was to be a try filled encounter of end to end rugby. From the off Lenzie looked very determined with some fast attacks that looked to cause a lot of trouble for Cumnock with Lenzie notching 3 tries on the trot. This seemed to motivate Cumnock to up their game as Izaak set off on a trademark thundering charge to get Cumnock on the score sheet. Another attack saw impressive debutant Ciara charge through the middle with the ever-present Logan in support to get over for his first.
Defensive efforts from Noah, Logan, Izaak and Murray were keeping the visitors at bay in midfield however Lenzie were still managing to outpace Cumnock on the wing to keep their scores flowing.
The game was turning into a nail biter as both teams were working tirelessly going try for try, Ewan and Finlay linked up well on the wing to create a gap to send supporting runner Aaron flat out down the wing to score in the corner. An excellent turnover won by Ewan allowed Izaak to crash over for the final try, but the game ended a very narrow defeat, Cumnock 10 - 11 Lenzie.
A fantastic effort from the Reds in only their second game in contact rugby, displaying true grit and determination to battle and compete to the end.
Scorers - Izaak 6, Logan 2, Aaron 2
Black squad - Cuinn, Kole, Freya, Lewis, Mason, Matthew, Paul, Reiley, Ryan.
Red squad - Aaron, Izaak, Noah, Ewan, Finlay, Murray, Logan, Ciara.
