Cougars bag another tournament win.

Cumnock Cougars P4 team travelled to Alexandria for the annual Loch Lomond RFC Tournament on a cloudy Sunday morning where they were warmly welcomed. The team again treated parents, coaches and spectators to another fantastic morning and afternoon of breathtaking rugby in which they played against 5 teams, at 8 minutes each. With this being the last tournament of the season the Cougars were full of determination to finish the season with another win and that is exactly what they achieved. Throughout every game this fantastic and well drilled team showed their opponents that it is all about working as a team which results in an overall win!

The first game was against Lenzie and they were quick to realise why Cumnock had the reputation it had! Normally it takes the team a while to get into the swing but this time they were all switched on right from the beginning resulting in a try being scored in the first minute. Every single player was on the ball right from the start and there was absolutely no chance that Lenzie was going to get through their defensive wall! With tackles coming thick and fast from Kyran, Euan, Adam k, Calleigh and Stuart our opponents were barely able to move!! We were able to chase down the try line on multiple occasions with Alfie, Ross, Aaron and Neil setting out with their established great pace . One of which had resulted from Alfie noticing a chance for him to intercept the ball in mid air and pounce and run with the ball scoring a try. Another one of the tries from Ross had resulted from an excellent pass from Adam K who saw a glimpse of Ross near him and before Lenzie had a chance to tackle him quickly off loaded to Ross resulting in Ross bagging another try. Rudi also bagged himself a try by powering through four defenders to show that once again the attacks not only go around the defenders but also straight through them. The game finished with Neil with his lightening speed twisting and turning his way through the defenders leaving them standing with absolute no chance to stop him to score a try just as the whistle was blown.

Overall score – Lenzie 4 – Cumnock 8

The second game was against West of Scotland . With Stuart, Rudi , Adam K, Calleigh , Alfie and Neil working hard to stop the leaks in the defence and working tirelessly as always and making vital tackles whilst also pushing forward to support the attack enabled the tries to come rolling in quick and fast from Ross, Aaron, Kyran and Euan. Euan and Kyran again showed their opponents that they don’t have to run around them they will just power their way through them and score tries. One of these tries had resulted from a fantastic tackle from Stuart in which he kept his attack up so much on his opponent that it ended up with a dropped ball and Calleigh picking it up and passing it to Aaron sprinting with his ultimate speed down the wing to score a try. Once again it was the outstanding defence that had made all this possible as all on the field had shown how well they had listened and taken on board techniques to tackle at recent training sessions resulting in them all able to bring any opponent to their knees!

Overall score – West of Scotland 3 – Cumnock 6

The third game was against Allan Glens a team which Cumnock had never experienced playing before however it soon became apparent to Allan Glens why Cumnock had such a reputation of well drilled team. Cumnock were able to deploy their now infamous defence by pushing their opponents back into their own half and with tackle after tackle and excellent quick thinking passing before the opponents could bring in their attack from Kyran, Stuart and Adam K there was no way Allan Glen were going to break through the solid defensive wall. With Aaron,, Alfie, and Neil demonstrating their usual cross pitch spectacular runs the game ended with 2 tries up for Cumnock.

Overall score – Allan Glens 2 – Cumnock 4

The fourth game was against the hosts Loch Lomond . With Loch Lomond being short of players Adam K offered to play with our opponents and showed the Loch Lomond coaches what a great team player he was! The match started at a blistering pace with the Cougars ripping the Loch Lomond defence to shreds and within a few minutes a try being scored by Kyran who noticed a chance to intercept the ball in mid air and power his way through the opponents to score a try. With tackles coming thick and fast from all the players our opponents were barely able to move!! Resulting yet again for another win for our fantastic team!
The final game was against Bishopton and Paisely mixed team with having played 4 games the team were understandably expected to start to tire. But that was not the case! They were going to finish the season like they had started it, winners!! This was a very fast paced game against a well drilled team and kept the Cougars on their toes. However the team were not phased and the defence was outstanding constantly pushing the opponents back into their own half. This was the game where one of our most improved players wanted to show why he was chosen! Not only bringing every player down with his tackling Stuart bagged himself 2 tries and finished the season on a high!

Overall score – Loch Lomond 3– Cumnock 6

What a fantastic season of rugby we have had this year! The coaches would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who have travelled all over Scotland to enable us to put forward such a fantastic team. If it wasn’t for such dedicated parents we would not be able to field such a great team. Thank you and we look forward to next season for another year of great rugby.

Final Overall Scoreline: Cumnock 24 - 12 Opponents

Squad: Calleigh, Stuart, Aaron, Euan, Alfie, Kyran, Rudi, Neil, Ross, Adam K
