East Kilbride & Ardrossan @ East Kilbride

At the now traditional first season fixture with East Kilbride we also faced off against a very well known and equally well skilled Ardrossan Accies.

Our hosts had ordered in a big parcel full of sunshine and it was certainly delivered on time as we were drench in sunlight for the entire fixture.

Match 1:
We started off the season against our, as always, gracious hosts. At first both teams were a little tentative with it being the first time in a couple of months where contact had been on the cards. Cumnock started off very quickly with Adam K winning the Rock, Paper, Scissors for kick off rights. As the first half built it was obvious for all to see that this would be a proper try fest. East Kilbride were opening up each play and getting on top time and again. However as the 2nd half began Cumnock were pouncing on every loose ball and also showing that they were not able to be cast aside. The young Cougars fought back and stepped it up and applied the pressure time and again. Throughout the match from then on it was very one sided as Cumnock dominated the fixture. Adam K brought the thunder and forced his way through time and again and managed to get over the try line. Amazing offloads from Calleigh allowed the team to keep up the constant progression. Adam S kept the Cumnock colours flying with tackle after tackle and with Jake & Kyran stopping all who came forward we were working hard to stop anything that tried to scoot through. Throughout the match tries came pouring in thick and fast with 8 from our hosts but a fantastic combination from all players showing that it's not just the try scorers who make the game winnable but the team performance and constant progression with each phase of the ball gave Cumnock the win.

Match 2:
Our 2nd match came up quickly and Ardrossan Accies are known to be very tough opponents. With a great talk between the matches where all the kids spoke about using teamwork to overcome our obstacles we squared off against our fellow Ayrshire rugby players. Daniel got off the mark for us with his first try and quick stepped his way through from a great break. Again it was the constant pressure and teamwork which saw Cumnock dominate the entire match. Again all pushed forward with great determination and chased down every ball to bring the entire day to be a win. Tries throughout this match from Stuart, Daniel, Neil, Jake, Alfie, Ross & Kyran brought the game to a close.

It was a fantastic day and a great performance by all. Coaches are looking forward to build on this truly amazing display and work hard at keeping the great displays coming regardless of any scorelines.
