Game 1 Cumnock RFC v GHA

Our second home game of the season seen the Cougars face their first big test of the season versus a very well drilled GHA side who had beaten us at Scotstoun previously – so the air was tense at fortress Broomfield as the first matched kicked off, but with a strong squad of 13 Cougars up for the game determined to do an injured Calleigh proud, it was always going to be a cracker and so it proved right from the start.

It was a confident start from Cumnock running in two tries to take an early lead, great strong running from Rudi and nifty quick footwork from Alfie giving the visitors something to think about alongside the strong tackling from Kyren and Jake in the middle of the park. GHA stepped up the pressure and it was clear that tackling and teamwork were going to win out as the scores ticked over on either side with Jake and Neil flying through and into the tackles and Aaron’s blistering pace down the wing into space, left the scores level at half-time. It was more of the same in the second half as tackles became tougher and tougher but Adam S amazingly found a narrow way through early on in the half to keep the scores level. The Cougars then stepped on the gas when fancy footwork from Ross found the try line with further tries from Alfie, Daniel and a well fought try from Adam K keeping the scoreboard alive and the defensive guard of Euan, Daniel, Jake and Kyran holding strong with Harvey in his first game showing the kind of pace and running that marks him out to torture defences this year. A final bruising try from Euan and another from Kyran seen the final score 18-16 to the Cougars in a true team performance with no fewer than 12 different try scorers!

Game 2 Cumnock RFC v Loch Lomond Cumnock Combine

Next up seen the boys really demonstrate rugby friendship by lending the depleted Lomond Squad a few of the Cumnock stars with Aaron, Rudi, Harvey and Daniel all lending a quality hand to their pals from Lomond. Game got off to close start with Aaron scoring twice for Lomond and then their defence holding firm assisted by Rudi in particular. The pressure built from Cumnock though and soon the tries were raining in from Stuart as he crossed for his first of 5 amazing tries in this game – the form player of the match! Followed by Neil, Jake, Alfie and Ross but answered well by the Lomond combined side with Harvie scoring on his first outing right in the corner as the game marched on with Jake, Alfie, Euan and Adam K adding to the sheet before Adam S snaked his way through an impossible gap again to seal the game, Final Score 20-10 to the Cougars.

Game 3 Lomond Cumnock Lions v GHA

Game 3 seen more action from some of the hard working Cumnock squad as they formed a Lions team to play the mighty GHA – A close encounter with Aaron, Neil, Ross, Adam K and Daniel all scoring for their combined team and putting in a brilliant tackling and running performance in support of their Lomond pals and making sure they did their team proud as the match finished 11-10 to the GHA team in a close fought outing.
