Teamwork & Tackling Shines Through The Rain

This seasons first home fixture was against a very good and very well known Lenzie RFC. We welcomed our opponents on an initially sunny morning and with an amazing 13 strong player team we were able to field both a red and yellow team to make it a 2 match game day.

As both Cumnock Cougars teams were warming up there was a tremendous downpour just to soften up our amazing facility and add slippery conditions to the challenge that was ahead.

Match 1:
As it was Jake's birthday he had the honour of leading his team out as Captain in our first match. And lead he certainly did. Throughout the match he was seen bringing down the attackers and forcing the opposition to drop the ball. Each time the team brought the pressure together Lenzie were forced back at one point even had to break out from behind their own try line to get into the game. Kyran used his power to drive forward and each time he did the put opponents were left wanting. Aaron showed how he only needs to be given a sniff of space and he was gone before the defenders could get close to him. Linking up with Kyran a few times puting our great teamwork right on show for our fans to see. Rudi as always battled hard and put every challenger back in their place and kept the pressure on all the time. Ross kept the game moving thick and fast ensuring that any chance the opponents had they were made to work hard and always side stepping his tacklers to the try line. Adam S kept his eyes on the ball all the time and worked hard and on every restart was itching to make his mark. His big chance really came after a Lenzie try and as he moved forward from a superb quick restart from Adam K he picked the space perfectly and beat every player on the other side charging down the line to score a fantastic try. Adam K Battled hard throughout and kept applying the pressure time and again. Rarely was a Lenzie player on the ball and didn't have Adam K charging on into him and showing off his technical ability.

Score: Cumnock 16 - 9 Lenzie

Match 2:
Our 2nd match came along after a good break for Lenzie as they had only 1 team this weekend. This match was more one of a constant battle and end to end. Team Captain Calleigh kept her team up to speed and worked hard on ensuring each reset was an opportunity to bring down our amazing pressure whether be that in attack or defence. Euan brought his usual powerful and engaging attack and defence and when he made his mark early on it was evident that his first match of the season would be a great display. Alfie stepped up the tempo each time he was on the ball and left his defenders completly on his dust. His technical about in the table was awesome and really showed how training brings on a match performance. Stuart worked hard in the tackle and won a lot of 50/50 scrambles and charged forward with intent each time battling hard to break through. Neils amazing tackling performance brought the game into our clutches and our opponents were struggling with their discipline as a result. Each time they moved forward he was on them bringing their legs into his tight grasp. Daniel worked for every ball that was loose and regained possession from the pressure he was puting in the Lenzie attackers his scramble game was really kn point. Ross joined the team to bring us up to the 7 players and again showed great width to stretch the defence.

Score: Cumnock 14 - 10 Lenzie
