P7's Away East Kilbride

CUMNOCK P7
Cumnock P7 – 5 East Kilbride P7 - 3

At long last it was the first game of the season for the now P7’s and with the new age grade law variations everyone from coaches to players were all buzzing to try the new laws. Cumnock started really well with all the kids really keeping their shape and holding their line really well. Tackling was a bit sluggish but all other aspects of the game were really good. The kids were well disciplined with the two man ruck Lewis and Cameron doing really well at scrum half talking to their team mates and guiding them into position. There were some great tries scored, Glen making a good run, beating a few players and then throwing an unselfish pass out to Seth to dive over in the corner for the score. Ben was showing great aggression and awareness and Sam who is going to flourish with his big hand offs this year keeping the opposition at bay.

Cumnock P7 – 2 Ayr P7 – 5

Next up was Ayr P7’s and a tougher match, the Ayr defence holding tight and tackling well. Katy had a few great bustling runs, Sam charging on hard but Ayr always managed to get one player in to make the decisive tackle. The Cumnock kids were trying the new kicking laws very well trying to kick in behind the defence and just a little unlucky at times but again some sloppy tackles were letting Cumnock down and this was probably the only difference in the game. Harry had some great turnover ball which was impressive and all the kids really gave their lot on the field.
It was a great start to the new season and very exciting for spectators, coaches and players with the new laws and variations and looks like we all have a very exciting season ahead.
