In their first game of 2018 Cumnock P1-7 were away to Biggar RFC in the in the beautiful Southern Uplands and the shadow of a snow capped Coulter Fell . Playing in reversed white jerseys to avoid a colour clash with the hosts Cumnock P7 were keen to kick off the second half of their final mini season in style - and they certainly did that. With a mixed squad of experienced and newer players the Cougars started the game as they meant to end it and ruthlessly exploited any weakness in the home side's defence. While there were numerous examples of individual attacking skills on display from the 'Nock boys coaches were particularly pleased by the teamwork, much improved support play and excellent continuity that regularly left the Biggar defence grasping at shadows as the Cougars popped the ball to supporting players off either shoulder. Despite the occasional guddle as players panicked when caught in possession and threw the ball away the overall retention of possession was very good. Biggar competed for every scrap of possession however and possibly had the edge in rucking but the Cumnock defence was nigh on impenetrable with shuddering tackles knocking back the hosts and setting up the scintillating Cougar's counter attack. Biggar never gave up and came into their game more in the later stages of the game but it was Cumnock that ran out worthy winners with a thumping score of 13 tries to 1.
