Cumnock P7 v Loch Lomond

After a last minute change of venue due to Loch Lomond's pitches being flooded Cumnock welcomed 'Lomond to a slightly drier Broomfield. From the outset it was clear that 'Lomond were a well organised and skillful side, moreover it was even harder to miss that some of the kids were HUGE! As the visitors kicked off they strung together some slick passing moves despite the slippery ball and blustering wind to stretch the Cougars defence, pulling them out of shape to create an overlap and touch down for the game's first try. The Cougars struck back immediately with some slick play of their own seeing Dan 'the Man' McKinlay level the scores. Lomond then pushed on through their big men, getting the edge in the rucks and securing the lion's share of possesion to constantly press the 'Nock line, again creating an overlap to touch down and regain the lead. A brilliant interception and sprint for the tryline from Tyler Wilson saw the scores levelled almost immediately however Lomond then upped the ante creating a maroon and yellow defensive wall repelling Cumnock's waves of attack - which increasingly became individual efforts, and as the ball carrier became isolated the Lomond pack turned over ball after ball to run in a further 3 tries. Cumnock working hard for every scrap of possession and territory still had opportunities to score, coming exasperatingly close to the tryline on a few occasions, but poor support play, inaccurate execution and some sloppy handling let them down. The game ended 5-2 to the visitors with Lomond running out worthy winners on the day.
