Cougars Clean Sweep

The Cartha Tournament is the first of the season and is one of the most relaxed and friendly of the year with players from Greenock, Irvine, Bishopton, Cumnock and Cartha Queens Park competing this year playing 2 x 10 minute halves per game. The P7 Cougars were champing at the bit to get started and kicked off against Bishopton. From the get-go the Cougars were in determined mood with complete forward power dominating the close encounters. As the backs were treated to an armchair ride with a plentiful supply of good quality possession they carved through the Bish' defence. Great interplay between the Cougars saw tries come flooding in. Superb play all round but in the forwards, Lewis Young was the usual perpetual motion tackling machine and Jacob Robertson played with great confidence to run in a brace of quality tries, meanwhile in the backs new player Mackenzie played like he'd been part of the Cumnock midfield for years and finished off his first game in a Cumnock jersey with a great try to add to some solid defence and searing breaks and assists.

Final score: 7-1
Tries from: Tyler, Jacob-2, Lewis, Gavin, Mackenzie, Thomas

Next Up was a Greenock/CQP combo which proved a stiffer test. The Cougars had to dig deep throughout the game to repel the combined clubs - who both had some giants in their ranks - but time after time the Black and Red line held strong. As the Cougars turned defence into attack the firepower of the rapidly expanding Cumnock outfit proved too much for the opponents to handle, Coaches were hugely impressed by some of new players - Lucca Antonucci making powerful surges up the wing, Brandon Ralston scoring his first try in only his 3rd game after putting in a power of work in the forwards and Mackenzie Roy's seamless introduction to the backline, all gelling brilliantly with their new teammates. Core P7 players also shone throughout the games and with 5 squad members unavailable due to the holiday weekend the strength in depth developing in the team is very reassuring.
Final score: 6-2
Tries from: Lewis 2, Gavin, Tyler, Sandy, Brandon

Squad: Finn Hewitt, Rhino Robertson, Ross Lindsay, Lewis Young, Jacob Robertson, Brandon Ralston, Cameron Kerr, Gavin Kirkland, Sandy Hay, Mackenzie Roy, Tyler Wilson, Thomas Robertson, Lucca Atonucci
