New season starts with a bang!

The new mini-rugby season kicked off at Broomfield with yet another cracking game of rugby against old friends and rivals East Kilbride. Two very well matched teams were keen to try out the new P7 law variations that introduced line-outs, 5 man scrums and 12-a side games.
Cumnock flew out of the traps in the first half running 6 tries for Ek’s 1. The Cougars forwards offered a ferocious platform for the backs, winning ball after ball in the ruck, Rhino Robertson in the new position of Hooker stole successive balls on the opposition put-into give half back combo of Gavin Kirkland and Sandy Hay the options to release the centres and wings at pace tearing through the EK defence.

EK are a formidable team however and after the break they re-grouped and played with an increased intensity in attack and defence. Cumnock, perhaps tired after their exertions in the first half, leaked defensively and lacked the urgency in the ruck at times allowing the visitors to build phases of play and pressure the Cougars try line.

The final score of 9-5 to Cumnock probably reflected the game which was played with huge commitment and skill by both clubs.
