The conditions were perfect for running rugby however Cumnock seemed subdued in the first half and made numerous errors which prevented them getting into a good rhythm. The bright spot in the first half was 2 breakaway tries for wing forward Jock Welsh.
In the second half Cumnock played better and started to string some phases together. Tries came for Hamish White, Jamie Drummond, Dylan Chidwick, Rob Drummond and a third for man of the match Jock White. The coaches most deserving player was Ross Briody for his overall effort and strong running.
Coach Mark Van Der Leest said after the game, “ I have been in a deep depression since England’s defeat in the world cup yesterday, today’s win has cheered me up no end. This wasn’t our best performance of the season and there were a lot of rough edges however it was still a good win. We will work hard on our set piece and decision making and be ready for our next conference match against Dalziel at the end of October.
