Cumnock were looking for revenge Lenzie having beaten them against the run of play in the opening game of the season.
Cumnock got off to a poor start, missed tackles allowing Lenzie to open the scoring with a converted try. This early shock galvanised Cumnock and they started to pile on the pressure with great support play seeing Kane O’Brien crash over for an unconverted try. Cumnock continued to pile on the pressure dominating the scrum and lineout to keep Lenzie under the cosh although Cumnock had most of the play and possession a stout Lenzie defense held strong and it was almost half time before Cumnock took the lead when Zak Donald picked up from the back of a scrum and showed some nifty footwork to touchdown under the posts and with Lewis McGregor adding the extras Cumnock finished the half with a 12-7 lead.
Cumnock came out fired up for the second half after a few words from the coaching staff about turning pressure into points. After some sustained pressure Cumnock increased their lead through the forwards with Euan Bell crashing over in the corner for an unconverted try. Cumnock next score came after some superb offloading and support play released John Watt to score under the posts and Robbie Kelly added the extra’s with a drop kick conversion. Cumnock’s final score came when strong rucking allowed Cumnock to turn over ball and saw Luke McGhee release Zak Donald ( with a lovely draw and pass) who then ran from inside his own half side step the full back and score below the posts with Lewis once again adding the extra’s. Lenzie had been under a lot of pressure in this encounter but never gave up and managed to get an unconverted try toward the end of the game. A superb team performance saw Cumnock emerge from this encounter with a convincing 31-12 victory. Well done boys (score settled)
