Report by Ian Park
Cumnock started brightly by scoring the first try after great possession, working the phases up the park and eventually scoring in the corner. The first half was evenly balanced with both teams playing good rugby and while Cumnock may have just edged the play in the first half they found themselves down by 2 points at half time with score 12 – 10 in Carrick’s favour.
The second half was eagerly anticipated in the hope that it lived up to the first but unfortunately for Cumnock, Carrick upped their game by moving the ball a bit quicker and closed the Cougars down quickly when in possession. This allowed Carrick to cross the line 3 times with Cumnock scoring with the last play of the game.
Cumnock never managed to move the ball quick enough to get it into space where their runners could exploit it. Defensively they were strong in the tackle but were too easy distracted and must concentrate on the game the whole time they are on the pitch.
Again the coaches were pleased with the boys commitment in the game and they can see improvement in the team, further improvement is only going to come with more game time, better discipline and concentration.
