S1 Festival @ Cumnock

Broomfield was the venue on Sunday for the S.R.U S1 Festival hosted by Cumnock and saw the weather and some superb rugby combine to provide a great days entertainment for all who attended.

The local team were in action against Ayr,Kilmarnock and Helensburgh.The first game saw Cumnock pitted against a well drilled Ayr team. Cumnock started off well in this game going close on several occasions and some strong defensive work kept the Ayr attacks at bay unfortunately tired legs and a few missed tackles allowed Ayr to edge this game.

The second game saw the boys taking on Kilmarnock,this proved to be a well matched,fiercely competitive game with Cumnock keeping Killie pinned back in their own half for most of game. Cumnock crossed the line twice in this game but a few bad decisions prevented them adding to this tally and two breakaway tries from Killie saw the honours shared in this encounter.

Lastly the boys faced Helensburgh for a thrilling end to end display of strong running and ferocious tackling with both teams really giving their all for the last game and in the end 3 tries each was a fair result after this bruising encounter.

Cumnocks performance on Sunday deserves a lot of praise as their are a lot of new boys in this team and this was their first performance as a standalone S1 team. Special mention also goes to Tyler Wallace who picked up a medal for persistent Man of the Match having been nominated by the opposition coaches in each of todays games.
