Cumnock s1/2 42 Strathaven s1/2 6

Strathaven had only 13 players down with them so the Cumnock coaches added players to their side.

With Cumnock being at home we Cumnock boys had a good warm-up. Arun Cooper had received and passed and had some speed to burn and scored with 20 seconds. In next minute Cumnock kept it going with Jamie Kennedy scoring 1 of his 4 tries for Cumnock.

After the start the game started to settle down with Strathaven receiving a lineout and they got the ball wide to score in corner, making it 7-3. Cumnock and Strathaven kept contesting the ball for the 60 minute game. From a Cumnock lineout about 30 metres fromn try line the ball got passed out to Arun for his 2nd of 3 tries. Jamie Kennedy then scored 2 more tries out wide after more passing from offload. Lewis Young got in on the act as well and scored a try, as well as Arun Cooper getting his final try. We were 40 minutes into the game and Jamie Kennedy volunteered to play with Strathaven for the last 20, when the score was Cumnock 30 Strathaven 3.

This made the rest of the Cumnock side play even more improved rugby. Kerr Robson got the ball and ran in a try after a number of passes through the Cumnock players. Cameron Smith received the ball in his own half and ran through a number of players to score a try and Lewis Young scored final score for Cumnock. Strathaven had the last work when they scored the final try of the day. This meant the final score was Cumnock 42 Strathaven 6. Cumnock thanked Strathaven for game after the long lay off for both sides.

Every Cumnock player on the pitch was making tackles and collecting ball and if wasn’t for work they did, the strike runners wouldn’t be able to score tries, so all the coaches were pleased with all their performances.
Cumnock s1 & s2 train at Auchinleck Academy astroturf on Thursdays 6.30-7.30pm under floodlights and both sides are away to Dalziel next Sunday, back in conference rugby.
