After a weather forced lay off for the last couple of weeks Cumnock S1’s were desperate to get back in action. With the weather playing its part Cumnock visited Uddingston for a rematch after previous defeat at their hands earlier in the season.
Cumnock were into their stride very quickly as the immediately got on the front foot attacking the Uddy line. This early pressure paid off very quickly and resulted in a score for centre Dillon Chidwick. Cumnock didn’t rest on their laurels and quickly got back to the Uddy line allowing Jamie Drummond to power over. The pattern continued for the rest of the first half allowing Cumnock to turn round 15-3 up thanks to 2 more Drummond tries.
The second half so a more evenly matched affair and only determined Cumnock tackling managed to keep Uddy at bay. Some of Cumnock’s interpassing was of the highest order as they burst through the gaps before off loading and moving the ball wide. New player Declan Granger caught the eye with some determined passing whilst Wallace Findlay had his usual rampaging performance.
Cumnock scored four more tries incredibly all by the human whirlwind Jamie Drummond who showed an uncanny ability to be on the end of every scoring pass due to his sheer determination to be where the ball is.
Coach Alan Montgomery said after the game, “I am delighted with how the boys played, there was a big improvement in rucking, the off loading was working really well and the boys tackled their hearts out. Both Dillon Chidwick and Jamie Caldwell did really well when played at centre and all the newer boys showed signs of shaping up well.”
Next week Cumnock S1s train at 6:30 pm at Auchinleck Academy Astro and at 6pm at Cumnock Academy Astro. On Sunday we entertain Birkmyre for what should be a great test.
