Hopes were high that Cumnock could kick on from their narrow defeat last week but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

Cumnock made the task almost impossible for themselves with an unprecedented string of handling errors often in crucial positions. Cumnock repeatedly manufactured good positions through neat work in midfield but it was increasingly frustrating that they were unable to capitalise on them.

Cumnock scored two tries of the highest order. The first was from man of the match Adam “Killa” Watt who glimpsed a blindside gap at a ruck and set off like a scalded cat. After a 30 metre run only the full back stood in his way but an outrageous side step followed by a swan dive finished off the move.

The second try came from an attacking ruck. The ball was fed to Andy Houston who ran round 2 defenders then side stepped 2 more to score. Both conversions were claimed by Wallace Findlay.

Coach Alan Montgomerie said after the game, “I have never seen the number of handling mistakes in 3 games that I saw in this one. The boys seemed exited and that seemed to affect their handling. There were some really good things. Our defence in some areas was better with some fantastic man on man last ditch tackles. The pick of these was from Hamish White who saved a certain try with his perfectly executed tackle. Junior rugby is like this however and it is usually 2 steps forward and one back. Some hard sessions on the training ground should sort out the problems seen today.”
