Cumnock team finishes of their home season in style.

Thanks to the inclusion of a number of Primary 7 players, Cumnock pitched up with a full strength team. Strathaven were three players short but the numbers were evened up by Cumnock players.

The first period was an evenly matched contest, both teams moving the ball about well. Callan Gordon opened the scoring for Cumnock, converted by Jack Reilly. Then Gavin White scored after a blistering run down the right wing, unfortuantely it was a score for the visitors, which was unconverted. Just before the first break Aidan Kerr darted through to score a fine try. Score at the end of the first period Cumnock 7 - Strathaven 3.

Cumnock started well in the second period and Gregor Aitken was soon on the score sheet, going over from close range. Gavin White then scored another try, this time for Cumnock. Strathaven replied with two tries, one of which was converted. Gordon, having an excellent game in the loose, ripped another ball in the tackle and scored between the posts, easily converted by Aitken. Andrew Harkiss, also having an excellent game in the rucks and mauls, barged his way through for a well deserved try just before the interval. Score at the end of the second period Cumnock 20 Strathaven 10.

The Cumnock players had their tails up and dominated the final period. Calan Gordon was rampant with another three wonderful tries, with further touchdowns coming from White, Kerr (2) and Alex Smith. Gregor Aitken kicked four further conversions with Alex Smith adding two more. Jack Reilly scored twice for Strathaven but there was no doubting the outcome of this match as Cumnock ran out well deserved winners.

Conditions were excellent for fast running rugby and the players in both teams didn't disappoint the large crowd that had gathered to watch. The Primary 7 boys all enjoyed their game and performed excellently. The players that took turns playing for Strathaven also deserve a mention in the way that they performed while playing for the opposition and the Strathaven coaches were full of praise for them. Overall an excellent performance in the last home game of the season.
