Cumnock travelled to Marr on the back of a good performance against Kilmarnock. However they knew that they would have to raise the standard of play considerably against one of the best local S2 teams. Cumnock unfortunately were without a number of key players but Marr offered a couple of their substitutes to even up the numbers.
Cumnock started well and indeed scored first, the try coming from one of the Marr boys. Further presssure nearly led to another score but Marr turned them over onthe line and ran the length of the park to score. The rest of the game was much the same, pressure from Cumnock but Marr turning them over at the breakdown then breaking away to score. Cumnocl's other try came from a good move which had lots of support, eventually letting in Robbie McLaren for his first try of the season, converted by Gregor Aitken.
The coaches were pleased in the spirit that the players showed, not letting their heads drop. A number of lessons were learned, in particular the importance of supporting the player with the ball.
The team could still do with some more players, any boy in S1 or S2 that is interested should come down to the academy astroturf at 6pm on a Thursday night.
