FIVE try Cumnock claimed a bonus point against Arran despite a disjointed performance.

FIVE try Cumnock claimed a bonus point against Arran despite a disjointed performance.
It took a much improved second half to secure the points after going into half time trailing to their island opponents.
Cumnock actually started the match well and set up camp deep in Arran territory.
The defence held firm for a lengthy spell despite Cumnock's pressure but eventually captain Campbell Reid was able to power from close range scrum to score the opening points.
Unfortunately Cumnock took the pressure off at this point and allowed Arran to enjoy the majority of the ball.
Cumnock's defence was generally solid with Gordon Laurie leading by example from the second row, while scrum half Pete Berrett also put in some hits well above his weight.
Arran managed to open their account with a penalty after sustained possession deep in Cumnock territory.
Despite a slightly rejigged forward pack for this match, Cumnock's set piece was solid with the line-out proving to be a constant stream of possession, while Steven Lowrie and Jayson McMillan gave their opposing props a hard time at the scrum.
Cumnpock looked to have one the ball back off an Arran line-out just before half time but they failed to secure the ball properly and Arran quickly moved the ball wide.
They waltzed through some weak Cumnock tackling to score in the corner, giving them the lead into the break.
Stern words from the Cumnock coaches at half-time spurred the team on and they were soon back on the attack.
Strong runs by Reid and Martin Wilson put them in position before McMillan drove over from short range after a quick penalty by Berrett.
Cumnock were straight back into Arran's half, with Martin Thomson's accurate kicking from full back helping pin the visitors deep in their own territory.
The islanders response was to try and run from deep with their speedy wingers but this yielded a third try for Cumnock when a loose pass was gathered by Laurie who shrugged off a tackle to run in the score.
Adam Gilbert unfortunately wasn't having much luck with the boot with all three tries going unconverted and he handed over the tee to prop Lowrie for a penalty in front of the posts moments later. The front rower easily knocked it home.
Cumnock looked set for their bonus point try when Campbell Reid latched onto a break down the wing by Scott McCall. However, the final pass to Laurie went astray and Arran showed their threat on the counter attack and they scored after two phases, albeit aided again by some tame Cumnock tackling.
This was to prove a temporary set-back and Cumnock were soon on the score sheet again with Jamie Thomson finishing off a training ground move after taking the scoring pass from Robin Montgomery.
Wilson took up the kicking tee with Lowrie off the park and knocked over the conversion from wide on the left.
That try sealed the bonus point but Cumnock wanted more and got it with Montgomery this time finishing off a move down the left, after good interplay between McCall and David Kerr.
The win, coupled with a try bonus point, are a useful result for Cumnock but the team will need to look at their decision making with a number of other chances going awry throughout the match.

Cumnock: Lowrie, Miller, McMillan, Brady, Laurie, J.Thomson, Kerr, Reid, Berrett, Gilbert, Montgomery, Wilson, Robb, M.Thomson.
