Cumnock S1/S2 team travelled to Millbrae home of Ayr RFC on Sunday with a depleted squad of players.
With only two subs Cumnock were under pressure from the start, new players having to play unfamiliar positions and learn as the game progressed.
When on the attack Cumnock made plenty of progress and started to look threatening but Ayr's defence denied any attack to result in a score.
Cumnock defended well but overlaps created let Ayr cross the line a few times uncontested.
Morale stayed high throughout the match and although Ayr had the stronger side Cumnock never gave up as three try saving tackles were made right at the goal line.
The game ended without a try being scored by Cumnock but the enthusiasm of the team and effort put in was commendable.
Next week is a home game against Garnock/Ardrossan hopefully we will be back to full strength and put in another good game.
