P3 at Cumnock Tournament

P3s tear it up at home tournament

The P3 Cougars welcomed Kilmarnock to Merlin Park on an overcast Sunday morning for our annual tournament. A fantastic turn out from the Cougars allowed us to field 2 teams, Black and Red. Kilmarnock also were able to field 2 teams making up for the disappointment of other clubs not bringing teams.
The Cougars Black team played their first game against Kilmarnock A team. From the beginning the Blacks were on fire and went at the opposition with fierce determination and one thing on their minds: the winner’s trophy!! The game started off at a quick pace with Alfie immediately spotting a gap and sprinting up the wing to score a try. A second try was soon on the cards with a quick off load of the ball from Ross to Adam resulting in Adam scoring a try. The Blacks were by now on fire and scored a great number of tries in quick succession with the last try coming from Stuart weaving in and out of Kilmarnock A players leaving a cloud of dust behind him. In defence the Cumnock Blacks worked hard to close gaps and deny Kilmarnock A any chances to score. This resulted in the score Cumnock Blacks 10 – Kilmarnock A 0
Up next was Cumnock Reds against Kilmarnock B .This game started with neither side giving anything away in defence and 2 turnovers after 6 tackle rule. Cumnock managed to draw first blood with Jake tearing down the wing and flying over the try line. This quickly set the tone and with great support play from Euan, Thomas, Rudi and Kyran brought another two tries from Aaron who showed a fantastic show of individual skill, weaving and side stepping his way to the try line. Final score Cumnock Reds 3 – Kilmarnock B 2
Cumnock Blacks took on Cumnock Reds next. This was a game in which they were both looking forward to, a fun game against their team mates. The Reds started off on the attack putting pressure on the Blacks’ tight defence. In defence the Reds got to show their strongest skills putting pressure on the attackers. The Blacks tried to stretch the Red defenders who some speedy runs to make a touch on the attackers and hold them back as best as they could but the Blacks irresistible attacking paid off with the game finishing Cumnock Blacks 6 - Cumnock Reds 1.
Whilst both Cumnock teams were having a rest and a bite to eat Kilmarnock A played Kilmarnock B. It was a very tense and exciting game for the spectators resulting in a draw.
With food in their bellies and raring to go again Cumnock Black were next up against Kilmarnock B. The pace was fast from the beginning with the Blacks showing a ruthless streak in defence to pressure Kilmarnock B and force turnovers. The Blacks attacking line and support was hot as they ran in a procession of tries from Alfie, Adam and Stuart. Final score Cumnock Blacks 6 – Kilmarnock B 0.
The final game of the tournament was Cumnock Reds v Kilmarnock A where once again the Reds had victory. Like the Blacks their pace was fast and their attacking line and support was great resulting in a procession of tries from Jake and Aaron. Final score Cumnock Reds 5 – Kilmarnock 1.
After a very enjoyable tournament in which lots of fun was had and the spectators were treated to some exciting rugby the result of the tournament was announced! It was a win for the Cumnock Blacks and runner up for the Cumnock Reds.
With this being the last game for the P3’s this season the coaches would like to say how very proud they are of all the children in the team. Every one of the children has come on leaps and bounds and without the determination and hard work of the children we would not have had such a successful season. Thank you to all the parents for your commitment and support.
Black Team: Ross, Alfie, Callum, Stuart, Adam,
Red Team: Aaron, Kyran, Jake, Thomas, Rudi, Euan
