P3 at Strathaven tournament

Worthy runners up

Cumnock Cougars P3 team visited Strathaven where they were warmly welcomed for the Strathaven RFC Tournament on a brisk Saturday morning. The team again treated parents, coaches and spectators to another fantastic and nail biting morning of rugby in which they played against 4 teams.
The first game was against the hosts, Strathaven and began with a fast pace, Strathaven scored a try in the first couple of minutes. This made the Cougars switch on and they did what they do best – picked up the pace and found the gaps in the opposition defence resulting in Jake scoring a try. The next try came from our newest addition to our team, Callum who only joined our team on Thursday! Throughout the game Cumnock continued to keep up their great defence which resulted in them winning 5-4.
The second game was against East Kilbride in which Cumnock’s defence was on top form resulting in East Kilbride scoring no tries. Final score: Cumnock 4 -0 East Kilbride
The third match against Dalziel was a game which kept the Cougars on their toes against a strong and determined team. Cumnock’s defence was superb and held them back for around 6 minutes in a 7 minutes match before Dalziel scored 2 tries in the last minute. Final Score Dalziel 2 -0 Cumnock
The fourth and final match was against a mixed P1-P3 Waysiders team and the Cougars quickly set the tone for the match from the start with Rudi noticing a weakness in defence and sprinting up the wing to score the first try. The next try which came was the try of the day which came from Callum spotting Stuart in a space and throwing a long looping pass before he was tackled and into the hands of Stuart who swerved in and out of Waysiders players scoring his first try. There was no stopping Stuart and after a quick off load of the ball from Ross, Stuart quickly again was sprinting up the wing to score another try. Final score Cumnock 5 – Waysiders 1
The performance and determination of this team was outstanding as they had to adjust to rules which they were not used to playing, still finishing as runners-up! A special mention for our newest addition, Callum, who showed great enthusiasm and determination in his first match today.
Squad: Stuart, Jake, Ross, Alfie, Rudi, Euan, Callum, Thomas , Corey
