Cumnock v Cambuslang and Whitecraigs

The P4 Cougars welcomed Cambuslang and Whitecraigs to Cumnock’s brand new pitches on a cold Sunday morning. They played one 10 minute game against Cambuslang and two 20 minutes game against Whitecraigs. A solid performance from the P4 team brought them victory once again in all three games.

The Cougars played their first match against Cambuslang in which Cumnock started on fine form with an extremely fast tempo from the outset which the opposition simply could not cope with. As soon as the ball kicked off in the first third Cumnock did not hesitate on a speedy attack when Aaron shot through the Cambuslang defence and scored the first try of the day. In this game it was Stuart , Alfie, Jake and Ross’s excellent tackling which gave the opposition no chance of getting anywhere near their score line. Each time they were pressed by the attackers they were able to stop the onslaught which resulted many times in the ball being turned over and given Cumnock the perfect opportunity to run rings around their opponents straight up to the score line and scoring another tries. On only one occasion were our opponents able to slip their traps and score themselves.

Final score: Cumnock 7– 1 Cambuslang

The second match of the day was against a well organised and talented Whitecraigs team A. It soon became apparent that this team were well accomplished and were there to win by scoring a try in the first few minutes. However the Cougars were not ready to allow their new pitches to be the venue for them to get defeated. They were able to show they too could step it up once again for this game as tackle upon tackle from Kyran, Euan, Rudi and Stuart came raining down on our opponents. Our opponents were however able to squeeze another two tries in the first half and three in the second. However the young p4 Cougars were too hot for Whitecraigs to handle showing some superb skills with some fine tackling offloading and running on show resulting in the final score being Cumnock 9 – 6 Whitecraigs.

The final match of the morning was against Whitecraigs other team, team B. The game was played at a high tempo again which Whitecraigs just could not keep up with the Cumnock Cougars fast pace. We were able to chase down the try line on multiple occasions with Alfie, Aaron, Ross, Rudi and Jake scoring 9 tries between them. The whole match was an all Cumnock affair with cross pitch onslaughts coming from everyone and a stonewall defence from Kyran, Stuart and Euan stopping every Whitecraigs move almost before it started. Whitecraigs however did manage a very impressive consolation try in the last few seconds of the game.
