Cumnock Claim Another Tournament Victory At Marr RFC

Cumnock Cougars P4 team visited Marr for the annual Marr RFC Tournament on a sunny Sunday morning where they were warmly welcomed. The team again treated parents, coaches and spectators to another fantastic and nail-biting morning and afternoon of rugby in which they played against 5 teams, at 10 minutes each.

The first game was against Kelso which having played them the day before the team were ready for them and knew exactly what to expect from this strong and well drilled team! Every single player was on the ball right from the start and there was absolutely no chance that Kelso were going to beat them!! The match started at a blistering pace with the Cougars ripping the Kelso defence to shreds and within a few minutes a try being scored. With tackles coming thick and fast from all the boys our opponents were barely able to move!! With excellent fast footwork from Aaron, Neil and Alfie with Kyran and Rudi doing what they do best using their power to drive through the oppositions defence to score a try resulted in a win for Cumnock.

Score – Kelso 4 – Cumnock 8

The second game was against Whitecraigs B which was a very fast paced game from the start. With Stuart, Euan, Adam and Jake working tirelessly as always and making vital tackles whilst also pushing forward to support the attack resulted again for a win for Cumnock.
Score – Whitecraigs B 5 – Cumnock 7
The third game was against the hosts Marr Purple a team which the Cougars had played a few weeks earlier. The Cougars knowing again that this was another strong team had to make sure they were on the ball. Marr quickly took a two try advantage and showed great play from their strong and pacey squad. But Cougars done what they do best – they worked closely as a team, picked up the pace and found gaps in the opposition defence to score two themselves, as the match tied at 2-2 there was everything to play for, however Marr got the turnover after some good Cumnock possession and a try saving tackle from the opposition ,they then ran up the pitch to score and make it 3-2. In the second half Cumnock knew they had a battle ahead and with great determination and skill Cumnock came back with 2 tries being scored.

Score – Marr purple 3 – Cumnock 4

The fourth game was against the hosts other team Marr Gold the Cougars were full of confidence and they were determined to keep that run going. The young Cougars spectators weren’t disappointed with another superb display from our team with some brilliant play in attack and defence.

Score - Marr Gold 4– Cumnock 10

The final game was against Whitecraigs White and what a game it was!! The team knew that this was the deciding game which would determine if they were going to be the overall winners! With the score being a draw at half time and after a team talk the team went in all guns blazing determined that they were coming home with a trophy! The second half for all spectators was an outstanding performance of rugby. Their defensive wall was solid pushing their opponents back into their own half and with tackle after tackle there was no way Whitecraigs were going to be able to score a try! With so much pressure on Whitecraigs which resulted on a dropped ball the Cougars were able to pounce and take possession which resulted in the winning try.

Score – Whitecraigs White 5 – Cumnock 6

The performance of this fantastic team was outstanding and the standard of rugby played by every player was breath-taking from all teams which participated in the tournament and to come out the winners was absolutely fantastic and well deserved. Every player in the team were tackling amazingly, passing and supporting each other and that is what we are looking for, working as a team! The tries don’t happen if we don’t have a team which work together and it was every single player today which helped us win! Well done boys!

Squad: Jake, Stuart, Aaron, Euan, Alfie, Kyran, Rudi, Neil, Adam.
