Cougar P4s Pounce On Loch Lomond

Cumnock v Loch Lomond

The P4 and P5’s Cougars welcomed Loch Lomond to Broomfield on a fine Sunday morning. They played two 15 minute games against a mixed p4/5 team and then a game against each other. A solid performance from both teams brought them victory once again in both games and a victory for Cumnock P4 against the Cumnock P5 team.

The P4’s Cougars played their first match against Loch Lomond in which Cumnock started on fine form with an extremely fast tempo from the outset which the opposition simply could not cope with. As soon as the ball kicked off in the first third, Cumnock did not hesitate on a speedy attack where our young Cougars were on the ball firing all cylinders and providing all spectators with an excellent display of rugby. Each time they were pressed by the attackers they were able to stop the onslaught which resulted many times in the ball being turned over and given Cumnock the perfect opportunity to run rings around their opponents straight up to the score line and scoring another tries. On only one occasion were our opponents able to slip their traps and score themselves.

Final score: Cumnock 13– 1 Loch Lomond

The second match of the day was a chance for our P5 Cougars to show what they were made off and like our P4s put on another display of fantastic rugby for all spectators to watch! The opposing team showed that they had been working well on their passing drills and offloads resulting in a quick try as soon as the match had started. But this was not going to hold Cumnock back and they soon stepped up their tempo and got amongst them and showed how we have not only been working on our passing drills but also our tackling which was evident with tackle upon tackle. The P5 Cougars were too hot for Loch Lomond to handle in the end showing some superb skills with some fine tackling, offloading and running on show resulting in the final score being Cumnock 17 – 10 Loch Lomond

Both matches against Loch Lomond was an all Cumnock affair with cross pitch onslaughts coming from everyone and a stonewall defence stopping every Loch Lomond move almost before it started. The coaches were really impressed with the performances from both teams especially the tackling which has been the main focus recently in training sessions.

The final match was the P4s Cougars against the P5s Cougars. With P4 and P5s training with each other every week and also taking part in a tournament the week before as a mixed team this was an opportunity for them to show who was the strongest! P4s quickly began the match determined that they were going to win! With fantastic pace, quick off loads and constant tackles raining down on the P5 team the P4 team soon took the lead by three tries. P5s were not ready to be defeated by their young team mates and quickly upped their game! With some good passing and support play the p5’s soon started to catch up with scoring 3 tries making it 5 -3 before the first half to the p4’s. The second half the P4’s were completely on the ball and with their jinky runners weaving their way through P5’s defence towards the try line ended up with another impressive 5 tries. However P5 were not going to let the P4’s have complete victory over them and soon showed the P4’s that they also have jinky runners who could out run anyone. This resulted in another 2 tries for the P5’s. This was a fantastic and gripping game to watch and the tackling shown by both teams was spectacular. Well done P4 and P5!
