Cumnock P4s Against Wigtownshire and Lenzie

This week Cumnocks P4s graciously welcomed Lenzie and Wigtownshire to the temporary Netherthird campus.

Match 1 was against Wigtownshire who had travelled the fair distance up the coast and showed that once again we would have to claw our way through the match. The Cougars were able to show they too could step it up once again for this game as tackle upon tackle from Jake, Rudi, Ross and Kyran came raining down upon our opponents. Our opponents were however able to squeeze 3 tries in the first half and 4 in the second. Alfie miraculously this time came away with 5 tries alone Rudi bagged 4 himself one of which came from a fantastic run and offload from Jake inches from the line. Kyran powered through 4 defenders to show once again the attacks not only go around the defenders but sometimes straight through them too. Aaron demonstrated his usual cross pitch spectacular runs to bring his tally for the match to 3 but by far try of the day came from Adam who, with blistering pace, lit up the far touchline and brought a smile almost as big as his own to those around him after beating both tackles to clinch the match for the Cougars. Once again it was the outstanding defence that had really made all of this possible as all on the field had shown how well they can really bring any opponent to their knees with technical ability alone.

Our second game was against Lenzie who had travelled down the M77 and showed that not only had they brought a good number of players but they had brought their quality of play with them too. However Cumnock were not ready to allow their new pitches to be the venue for their first defeat. Again and again the Cougars were able to deploy their now infamous defence and stop all but one attack in the first half by our Lenzie opponents. We were able to chase down the try line on multiple occasions with Alfie and Aaron setting out with great pace each and every time were able to bag a hat trick of tries each. Jake was also able to twist and turn his way to a try and show that our speed and lightness of foot comes from all angles. Stuart was next to make a charging run down the line but a blow of the referees whistle meant that his try was disallowed as he had placed a foot over the touchline. The 2nd half was an all Cumnock affair with cross pitch onslaughts coming from everyone and a stonewall defence from Euan stopping every Lenzie move almost before it had started.
