Ayrshires tri-region derby results in a win for the Cougars

The P4 Cougars welcomed Marr and Ardrossan to Netherthird pitches on a cold, windy and wet Sunday morning.
The Cougars played their first match against Ardrossan. The game started off at a quick pace with Alfie immediately spotting a dropped ball from the Ardrossan team, picking it up and sprinting up the wing to score a try. Ardrossan then hit back straight away with a well worked try to level the score 1-1. Jake Ross and Alfie were all on the score sheet before half time to increase Cumnock’s lead to 4-1. The second half was played at an extremely fast pace with Stuart drawing first blood with an excellent run up the far wing. He was too strong for the Ardrosson defence to stop him and touched down to extend Cumnock’s lead. Ardrossan were on the score sheet once again to make the score 5-2. Cumnock hit back once again with a fine double from Alfie and another from Stuart. The defending on show from Euan and Adam made the game for Cumnock as they continually thwarted the oncoming moves from the Accies to bring their team home to victory.
Final score: Cumnock 8 – 3 Ardrossan.
The second match of the day was against a well organised and talented Marr team. However the young p4 Cougars were too hot for Marr to handle showing some superb skills with some fine tackling, offloading and running on show. Cumnock got off the mark straight away with Alfie scoring the first. Then it was Ross’s turn who with some brilliant sidesteps, touched down to give Cumnock their second try. Cumnock scored another 2 before half time with Alfie and Aaron getting on the score sheet. Adam shimmied into a run from deep into his own territory and sprinted passed the Marr defenders and down the touchline and was stopped a yard from the try line and pushed into touch. The second half started the same as the first with Cumnock on the front foot and Euan making a fantastic run from inside the Cumnock half. The Marr team couldn’t stop him and was unfortunate not to score as he got tackled right on the try line. However with Jake right behind him supporting him every step of the way, Euan popped the ball up to him which gave Jake the opportunity to dive over the try line to make the score an impressive 5-0. Marr however did manage a quick try and Alfie also scoring one more for Cumnock before the end.

Final score Cumnock 6 – 1 Marr.

Cumnock Team - Euan, Stuart, Ross, Alfie, Aaron, Adam & Jake.
