Cumnock Cougar P4s against Ayr x2 and Marr at Ayr

The youngest of the Cougar Minis travelled the short distance towards the coast to Ayr's Doonside pitches full of determination and hope for what lay ahead with another multi game match-day in front of them.

Game 1 for the day was our first against Ayr as they had a strong 17 player squad at their ground. In order for us to keep the game flowing Hayden graciously volunteered to play for the Cougars rather than play for Ayr meaning both teams played with 8. Ayr showed good determination and kept coming forward with intent but the Red & Black defenders showed good muscle and were able to prevent any leeks for almost the entire game with only 3 occasions of tries being lost. On the flip side of this moving forward Cumnock were able to pick holes in the Ayr defence at ease with tries coming from multiple players. Alfie had 4 himself and was able to run both around and through the tacklers one of which came from Stuart being able to turn the ball over by ripping the ball from the hands of the opposing player such was the determination on display from the young Cougars. Aaron got 2 tries with showing his now trademark diagonal run through each opponent to dive into the corner. Adam picked a fantastic supporting line behind Alfie and when he was tackled Adam was able to speedily run through the defenders taking the tacklers by complete surprise and showing great determination to run through all attempts to bring him down and scored a fantastic try. Hayden, relishing the chance to be playing against his team mates, bagged 2 himself.

A very different game came next with a hard fought game asking very different questions to the first however the Cumnock boys showed Ayr's next team that attacking defence is the answer and also the mainstay of those adorning the Cumnock colours. With tries being scored left and right from Alfie (5) and Aaron (3) proving more than a match for those in the pink and black. The game went end to end from the off and was very closely contested however a defending lesson for all on the sidelines given by Calum, Rudi, Stuart, Kyran and Adam enabled the results to keep coming.

Final Score: Cumnock 8 - 6 Ayr

Game 3 was against another of Ayrshires finest, Marr. Kyran this time brought his team forward and showed our opponents how grit and determination can overcome even the hardest defence powering through tackle after tackle to score 2 excellent tries with his ever present smile inducing fear into everyone who got close to him. With inspiration aplenty the rest of the team picked great lines through and over the Marr defenders. Two tries coming from Aaron who no-one could get near when he started his light footed runs beating everyone, a single down the line with a diving finish from Rudi, Alfie getting another double with his signature twists and turns, a great run from his own half and down the line from Stuart and one from Calum bringing us home into the corner resulted in an emphatic win from the third and final game. This left our opponents mesmerized as to where the next try was coming from with all scoring well today.

A great day was had in the autumnal sun and the young Cougar Cubs put on a fantastic team display and showed that a team that works together has fun together.
