Matches Against Irvine, Helensburgh, Greenock and Ardrossan.

Cartha Tournament 2018

Cumnock Cougars P4 team visited Cartha for the annual Cartha RFC Tournament on a wet and windy Sunday morning where they were warmly welcomed. The team again treated parents, coaches and spectators to another fantastic and nail biting morning and afternoon of rugby in which they played against 4 teams, at 7 minutes each.

The first game was against Irvine where things were tight due to a very small pitch. However this didn’t stop our Cougars beginning with a fast pace, which resulted in a try being scored in the first couple of minutes. Overall score for this game was Cumnock 3 Irvine 1.With Alfie scoring a superb hatrick.

The second game was against Helensborugh which was played on one of the four bigger pitches and suited Cumnock to a tee! The match started at a blistering pace with the Cougars ripping the Helensborugh defence to shreds with Alfie finding space and using his lightning speed to great effect. Next on the score sheet was Kyran using his power to drive through the oppositions defence there was no stopping him getting his first try for Cumnock. Also on the score sheet was Aaron, Rudi, Jake and Ross with an excellent double and try of the match using some superb sidesteps to weave his way to the try line. Final score was Cumnock 9 – 1 Helensbourgh.

Cumnock try scorers: Kyran 1, Aaron 1, Alfie 3, Rudi 1, Jake 1, Ross 2

The third game was against Greenock a team which the Cougars had played the previous week. The Cougars knowing that this was a strong team went into the match with fires in their bellies and passion in their hearts to win! This was a very different game from the first two and was hotly contested with Greenock taking a two try advantage with some great play from their strong and pacey squad. But Cougars done what they do best – they worked closely as a team, picked up the pace and found gaps in the opposition defence to score two themselves, at the match tied at 2-2 there was everything to play for, however Greenock got the turnover after some good Cumnock possession and a try saving tackle from the opposition ,they then ran up the pitch to score and make it 3-2, With a couple of minutes left to play the cougars still had their say it this match with some great determination and skill Cumnock levelled the match ending the game Cumnock 4 Greenock 4.

Cumnock try scorers: Alfie 3 Aaron 1

The final match was against Ardrossan, the Cougars were full of confidence and with a long unbeaten run of 10 matches since the start of the season they were determined to keep that run going. The young Cougars parents weren’t disappointed with another superb display from our team with some brilliant play in attack and defence. Jake Young was the shining light in this match with some terrific play he was like a rock in defence and added to his tally for the day with another brace of tries! Aaron was on fire as well and doing what he does best using his blistering pace and running the full length of the pitch to score an excellent try. Final score in this match was Cumnock 5 Ardrossan 2

Cumnock try scorers: Jake 2, Alfie 2, Aaron 1.

The coaches were again delighted with the performance from the p4 team who showed great skills and determination to keep up their unbeaten run. A special mention goes to Euan for his brilliant defensive play and superb tackling which saved a few tries being conceded and an overall terrific team play.
