Ardrossan Festival

Cumnock P4s were welcomed to a dull starting Ardrossan tournament today and with a schedule of 3 games at 15 minutes each they would have to shine brightly amongst some looming dark clouds.

Game 1 for the tournament was also Cumnocks first match and consisted of the young Cougars against our gracious hosts.
As the Cougars strutted onto the field in the shadows of the moment of trepidation passed by quickly as our young heroes quickly brought the game under control.
Tries from Alfie, Jake, Stuart and Aaron showed that the team were able to pounce from anywhere and anyone. Our hosts showed there worth too with 4 well worked tries however the strict Cumnock defence allowed very little through and capitalised on any mishaps that the constant pressure from our stalwart defence from Euan, Calum and Rudi caused.

A very hard fought 15 minutes went past in the blink of an eye in our next game which was with Irvine. A very different game from the first was hotly contested with both teams taking possession from each other time and time again. Attacking defence was to be the tactic applied by all who graced the battlefield and as the Cougars circled around and around their prey each and every time they lost possession it was quickly won back on all but 3 of the occasions when Irvine were able to slip the net. However with tries from Alfie, Aaron and Rudi the Red and Black proved more than a match for those who would have had us beaten. The boys showed that they were willing to give everything for their team-mates with their brave bodies being put to the test and Jake summed up the spirit on display by throwing himself on the line despite taking a bump to the head. He walked off the field and was unable to continue but supported strongly from the side.

Final Score: Cumnock 6 - 3 Irvine

The final game against Greenock coincided with the sun shining through and as the pitch shone so did the blazing display from our admired Chieftains as once again tries from Alfie Aaron and Rudi had the match back to being open and hard fought. Our brave souls threw everything at the final game and with no subs due to the previous games heroism from Jake the boys played their first non-stop 15 minutes and again the supporters were shown how to step up to the mark when called upon. However our challengers may have had other ideas with a hard physical game and pace to match, it was end to end stuff but with the meteoric effort in defence from Euan, Calum and Stuart the tournament finished how it started. With a win for the mighty Cougars.

A great day was had by all and a great thank you to our hosts for allowing us to put a great display on for the spectators.
