A fast paced game

Our p4 Cumnock Cougars travelled to Calderglen Park to be welcomed by East Kilbride on this sunny Sunday morning.

The Cougars were playing a man short on a pitch size bigger than they are used to playing on, but this didn’t deter them from looking to show off their skills. Borrowing two players from EK the morning started with a 10 min warm up game, followed by a game of two 10 minute halves. Then another 10 min game.

It took the warm up game for the cougars to get their game heads switched on. EK making some fantastic runs against the Cougar defence. After losing the ball in a Ruck in first play Cumnock realised their rucking had to step up a pace. Up against such speedy players there could be no room for hesitation.

Onto the main game EK switched their borrowed player, giving the Cougars a new team mate for 20 mins. With EK showing such a fast paced game at the start. The cougars stepped their game up a little with some encouragement from Jayden their borrowed EK team mate. The first half of the game showed both sides running in some fast tries. Stopping EKs fast players from breaking through the cougars defence was a big challenge for our p4s today. Some Great tackling from all Cougars sure slowed down the attack from EK. When Cumnock got on the attack, team work was the skill that got the ball over the line. With some speedy pop passes and offloads when tackled. Second half of the game the cougars were tiring but managed to steal the ball from their opponents a lot more from rucks or EK handling errors. Again this half seen some fast scoring tries from both sides with the game finishing 13 to EK, 13 to Cumnock.

To end the day both teams had a 10 min game. Credit to East Kilbride for hosting us, loaning the cougars 4 players throughout the day and in the words of Jayden our borrowed EK player at half time team talk. “we don’t play for teams, we play rugby”.
