Sunday 18th February saw Cumnock P4 team play in what may possibly be one of the final rugby matches they play on Broomfield park. They hosted 2 talented teams from West of Scotland as well as a strong Hamilton squad. In their first game, Cumnock played against the first West side and were victorious with a score of 8-2. In this match, Cumnock P4’s played extremely well, making every tackle and playing an excellent off-loading game, resulting in entertaining, fast paced rugby which ended in some impressive tries being scored.

Cumnock’s next opponents were the second West of Scotland team and this was a much tighter affair. In this game, Cumnock struggled a bit more in rucks, meaning they lost possession in a few key moments. This led to West of Scotland taking an early lead. This happened a few times and by around the half way mark, West were winning by 3 tries. Later on in the game, however, Cumnock Improved their line speed, rucking and passing and made a comeback to 3-3. Unfortunately, an impressive side-step from one of the West of Scotland players made it 4-3 to the visitors. Despite the result, Cumnock showed great determination to come back from a losing position and each player played a vital role in achieving this.

The final game saw Cumnock coming out as 7-3 victors over a well structured Hamilton side. They showed great determination in this game and their rucking and tackling practice at training over the past few weeks was evident. Cumnock also off-loaded the ball very well and this allowed them to open up space and score tries. Overall, Cumnock P4’s played very well as a team today and each player gave 100% and showed great skill.
