Cougars Shine Through In The Fun & Sun

As the sun shone down on a very warm GHA all weather pitch it was the turn of the P5s to show off their skills like the P4s & P7s before them. A big thanks has to go to our hosts as all kids had a fantastic day full of great rugby but most importantly lots of fun and smiles.

GHA (1) Vs Cumnock:
As the game kicked off, we had agreed some longer than usual matches as we had the pitch to ourselves and a warm sunny day to have lots of fun with. As GHA won the obligatory Rock, Paper, Scissors they kicked off and immediately had to come to terms with our pressurised defence. We pounced on the ball each and every time it was loose and the attacking players were welcomed to the same treatment. GHA provided us with a very stiff opposition and also the chance to have lots of fun as we also did with them. Both teams were very evenly matched in both ability and smiles and it was a great show for all the fans to see. Kyran was first on the scorecard for the mighty Cougars which was the first of his hat trick for this match as did Neil. Alfie bagged a double as did Ross along with Daniel, Jack & Dani’s singles. However, it was the teamwork which was the real winner of this match. As each and every drive moved forward Ewan, Harvey and Stuart could be seen throwing themselves through the defenders and off loading in great style both in and out of the tackle. A fantastic match was had by all and a great sporting event was delivered.
Score: GHA (1) 11 – 13 Cumnock

GHA (2) Vs Cumnock:
This time Stuart won the kick-off for our heroes and from the very off they were able to demonstrate that we had merely been practicing in the first match and were able to hit a 2nd gear and really deliver a strong performance. Tackle after tackle came raining down on our opponents and despite the fact that this was our 2nd match we showed that we could keep the pace high and deliver great speed and pressure each time. From pouncing on dropped passes due to the crunching tackles from Ewan and Neil to the amazing direct lines from Dani and Harvey. Alfie and Ross provided the pick and goes which permitted great support work from all whilst Stuart, Adam K & Kyran brought the power and leg drives in the tackle to break through the game line and make devastating passes to the awesome support from their team mates to move forward more and more until the game line turned into the try line for our fantastic tries. In terms of tries we had 4 from Adam K, 4 from Neil, 2 from Ross and singles from Daniel, Jack, Harvey, Stuart & Alfie but it was Kyrans double that set him apart from the rest. His final try was a thing of magic which was set up beautifully by is team mates. As Kyran looked up and saw the space open up in front of him he was looking either side for where the off load was going to go to but with the support coming in spades the defenders had to stretch themselves wide to cover off which allowed Kyran to go all the way to the line and give us a great demonstration of how to spot the space and go straight to it running most of the pitch to dive over for an awesome try. As the game progressed on we were able to push GHA back further and further time and time again with Neil really going hot on their heels and pouncing on every player who was unfortunate enough to have the ball and be on the same pitch as him. Along with Euan’s excellent defence and pushing the opponents way wider than they would have hoped to go we brought the game to a close. It wasn’t all our own way though and much work still remains for training on Thursday as GHA put up a very good defence and attack against our mighty P5s.
Score: GHA (2) 14 – 17 Cumnock

Overall Score: GHA 25 - 30 Cumnock
Dream Team – Stuart, Euan, Jack, Alfie, Harvey, Daniel, Ross, Neil, Dani, Kyran & Adam K.
