Ayrshire batte at Broomfield

Cumnock welcomed Marr to a sunny but breezy Broomfield. Cumnock was set to play 4 games against a purple Marr team and a Gold Marr team.

Game 1 Cumnock got off to flying start in today's first game against Marr purple team. Keeping the ball moving passing to team mates pulling Marr defence all over the pitch to create gaps to run in some tries. Marr had shown some great defence making it hard for the Cumnock players to break through their line. Ellie played her game today at a fast pace getting over the line to score 5 tries.
Cumnock defence had to be on top form against Marrs hard attacking plays, John and Kenzie were making good solid tackles in this game.
Ending the game Cumnock 7 Marr purple 6
Tries Ellie 5, John and Kenzie.

Game 2. This was much tougher Marr team to be up against. Again, Marr shown some good structure to their play and using the full pitch to their advantage. Keeping the pressure on the Cumnock defence Kenzie and John showing off their tackling skills to try stop the Marr gold team getting over the try line. With some handling errors from Cumnock in this game Marr had turned the ball over quite a few times and gained a lead in scores. Performance from Cumnock has slipped a little since first game but the team gave it everything they had. The newest member of the team Thomas showed us he wasn’t willing to be stopped to get a score on the board and scoring a try for the Cumnock cougars.
Cumnock 2 Marr gold 7
Tries Thomas, Kyran

Game 3, Marr purple. After a team talk from coaches Cumnock needed to step up defence a little, which they did, but Marr purple had also stepped up their defence since 1st game. We started see some great rugby being played here at Broomfield with both teams throwing everything at each other. Again Kenzie had showed us once again some great tackles in this game, 3 tackles in a row being made. Cumnock struggled in this game to push Marr back over the line, Johns zig zag running was not working like it usually did and he struggled to get past Marr defence. Ellie running in another try in game giving her 6 tries total throughout the day. Her great performance was commented on by one of the Marr coaches.
Cumnock 4 Marr purple 5
Tries Ellie and Aaron 3

Game 4, Marr Gold. Knowing this was the toughest Marr team today and Cumnock getting tired had to make one final big push. Taking in information from previous team talks Cumnock was ready to battle out their final game of the day. John had shown some he had listened to what coaches said and keep running forward instead of his usual zig zag across the pitch, take a tackle if he had to, he relished in the fact this was working for him and got him over the line to score tries. Jack made some great supporting runs in this game although didn’t score today he aided in more than one of the tries being scored. With this being the harder of the two Marr teams here today Cumnock was tiring and still giving it everything to not let Marr over that line.
Cumnock 5 Marr gold 5
Tries John 3 and Tony 2
Alfie joined the p5 team in this game

As always when our Ayrshire neighbours visit for a fixture we see some tremendous rugby skills on show. A great day of the rugby for our p5s.
